What to Expect

Free Phone Consultation

Call or email me to schedule a free, brief phone consultation (10-15 minutes) to determine if I’m the right psychologist for you. It’s helpful to review my website in advance so that you’re aware of my services and rates.

Before the initial appointment
You will receive an email from the client portal with important documents to review and sign in advance of the initial appointment.
Initial appointment

You can schedule the initial appointment once the required paperwork is signed. The initial in-person appointment consists of a thorough assessment (1- 1½ hours) that includes a discussion of your personal and treatment history along with current issues. We will identify the problem(s) that brought you to therapy so that we can have a common understanding of your treatment goals. We will collaborate on what treatment modality might best meet your needs.

Ongoing appointments

Sessions usually last 50 minutes and are highly interactive regardless of whether it’s in-person or by teletherapy (videoconferencing). Treatment is present-focused and includes the use of homework to promote positive change. Throughout treatment, we will continually assess your progress, highlight what works well and make changes in order to best help you on your journey. We will incorporate assessments to tailor treatment to your needs, to sharpen treatment focus, and to measure objective change.

Brief therapy
A typical length of treatment lasts between 8 and 20 sessions, though duration depends on many factors including your unique needs. Relapse prevention planning will occur to ensure that you can apply the skills addressed in therapy. An episode of care comes to an end when you have reached your treatment goals. You may opt for “booster sessions” after an episode of care is completed.
Family involvement

When desired or indicated, family participation is ideal for promoting long-term change. Family is defined by YOU which can include family members (biological, in-laws, adopted, surrogate), significant others/partners, friends, roommates, and other supportive individuals.

Services include Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders, brief family consultations, and participation in your individual sessions as agreed upon in advance.
